The Centre is committed to amending Article 371 of the Constitution which would result in Hyderabad Karnataka getting special status, N. Dharam Singh, MP, told presspersons here on Thursday.

He was reacting to allegations by Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda that the issue was delayed because of the “indifference” of Mr. Singh and Union Labour and Employment Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge.

“We recently led a delegation to the Centre on the issue. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram assured us that the draft Bill would be prepared and the Bill presented in Parliament; and as far as I know, the file is before Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid,” he said. The UPA Government would take a decision after the elections to five States, he said.

The former Chief Minister said he would resign (as MP) if the Bill was not presented in Parliament in the next Lok Sabha session.
