Five Infosys staff lost their way in the forest on Sunday

MANGALORE: Five employees of Infosys, Bangalore, who lost their way in the thick forest while trekking to the Bandaje Falls in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada on Sunday were rescued on Monday, thanks to the cellphones they carried with them.

According to police sources, the Infosys employees parked their vehicle at Valambra and started trekking from there on Sunday morning. The distance between the Bandaje Falls and Valambra was approximately eight km. Though the people advised them to proceed further with a local guide, they ignored it. After trekking for over five hours in the forest, they realised that they had lost their way. By that time they should have reached the falls. It was evening when they reached a peak in the middle of the forest. From there, they called up the Infosys office in Bangalore from their cell phones and informed their colleagues that they had lost their way in the forest.

On receiving the information, the police along with the local people launched a search operation at night. The employees were asked to give details of the location they were stranded. Based on that, the police traced them at 3 a.m. on Monday, the sources said.
