Bangalore: Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said that a quality assurance cell, comprising experts from different institutions, would be constituted to monitor quality of all ongoing irrigation projects in the State.

Addressing presspersons here, he said experts in the field of infrastructure and irrigation from the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore would be drawn to constitute the five-member cell. It would monitor all irrigation projects to ensure the quality of the works.

Regular monitoring would help to eliminate the delay and irregularities in the execution of works, Mr. Bommai said. In fact, the department has already constituted a task force for monitoring the progress of irrigation projects.

Sixteen new gates would be installed at the Krishnaraja Sagar dam, he said.
