Raghupati Bhat, Udupi MLA, said on Thursday that the CD aired on a television channel showing him in compromising position with a lady was a fake one.

Speaking to The Hindu , he alleged that the CD was created by his opponents to destroy him politically as they could not tolerate the development works undertaken by him in Udupi. Since they could not tackle him directly, they had resorted to such cheap politics, he claimed.

Asked who these political opponents were, he said: “I do not know who it is. I will not name any individual. But people know it”, he said.

Mr. Bhat said he would meet Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and urge him to conduct an inquiry into the genuineness of the CD.

He had approached the court in Bangalore and it had passed an order staying the telecast of the CD on television channels.

“Though I will not contest Assembly elections this time, I will not retire from politics, this is a temporary setback. I do not want the image of my party to be sullied by this episode,” Mr. Bhat said.
