A 20-member team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths, led by Hitendra, Joint Director, and Subramanyeshwara Rao, Superintendent of Police, are in Hospet, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the illegal transportation of over 50 lakh tonnes of iron ore from Bellary district which was exported through the Belikeri port in Uttara Kannada.

According to sources, the CBI had served notices to several transporters, traders and mine owners, among others, asking them to appear before it on Thursday to submit details of the extent of ore transported by each individual/ company to the Belikeri port for exports.

Accordingly transporters, traders and representatives of mining companies appeared before CBI sleuths at Amaravathi, a government guesthouse in Hospet, answered queries and provided documents pertaining to the extent of ore transported by each of them.

Sources said the CBI team went round several stockyards and ore plots held by Associated Mining Company (AMC), owned by the jailed mining baron G. Janardhan Reddy and his wife G. Lakshmi Aruna; Veeyam Mines, SVK Mines in Vyasanakeri, SVK Mines in Danapur, Nagappa Mines, SLV Mines, SBM Mines, Sesa Goa at LMC plot, Balaji Enterprises, MRK Plot and CIPL mines, located in Yammihalli, Danapur, Jaisingpur, Papinayakanahalli, Vyasanakere, Ingalagi, Vaddarahalli among others in Hospet and Sandur taluks.

The verification of plots, collection of details and documents and also questioning of traders, transporters and representatives of mining companies will continue on Friday.
