Though there is an acute water crisis in Whitefield, response to Cauvery Stage IV Phase II that promises regular water supply to a part of the area has been lacking.

Jagadish, a resident of The Grove, a residential colony, said Cauvery water has been a pipe dream since he shifted to the area half a decade ago. Murali, a resident of Vijaynagar, said houses with Cauvery connection scarcely get water and the connection and the fee had made it unfeasible.

Officials with the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) said very few had taken the connection. An official who did not want to be named said: “Unless most people in an area avail themselves of a connection, it is difficult even for us to provide water regularly. Not even 300 new connections are being taken a month. There is no revenue being generated to sustain it.”
