YADGIR (GULBARGA DISTRICT): It is the duty of the Centre to intervene and set right the injustice done to Karnataka by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, Sri Shivakumar Swamigalu of Siddanganga Math of Tumkur has said.

He was talking to presspersons during his visit here to participate in the annual "jatra" of Abbe Tumkur Math in the outskirts of Yadgir town.

Karnataka, which had the largest catchment area for the Cauvery river, should have got a better share, he said.

He felt that the tribunal had come under the influence of Tamil Nadu and it had done injustice to farmers of the Cauvery delta in the State.

The Government should consult legal experts and chalk out the next course of action, including the filing of a review petition before the Supreme Court. Politicians of Hyderabad-Karnataka hould be blamed for the backwardness of the region, he said.

The swamiji said that he was opposed to the demand for a separate State for Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

Integration of Kannada speaking regions was possible after many years of struggle and this should not be allowed to go waste, he said.
