GULBARGA: The police registered a criminal case against Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and noted industrialist B.G. Patil on Monday for violating the model code of conduct. Mr. Patil is contesting from Gulbarga North Assembly constituency.

Official sources said that cases under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been booked against Mr. Patil. According to the Election Commission’s directive, only five persons including the candidate should be present in the chamber at the time of filing nominations. However, according to the complaint, eight persons, including the candidate, were present in the chamber.

District Election Officer Pankajkumar Pandey also served a show-cause notice on the nodal police officer for allowing more than five persons inside the Returning Officer’s chamber.
