Campaigning gathers pace in Davangere

: Congress candidate from Davangere North S.S. Mallikarjun on Wednesday did some brisk campaigning for himself and for his father Shamanur Shivashankarappa, who is contesting from the Davangere South Assembly segment.

Mr. Mallikarjun along with Abdul Jabbar, president of the District Congress Committee, went in an open jeep in Azad Nagar, Ahmed Nagar and Basha Nagar to campaign for his father. He appealed to people to vote for Mr. Shivashankarappa and bring the Congress back to power in the State.

Meanwhile, film actor Bhavana continued her campaign for Mr. Shivashankarappa on Wednesday in various parts of the Davangere South constituency. Accompanied by Mr. Shivashankarappa and other leaders, she campaigned in Suresh Nagar, Hondada Circle, Jolly Nagar and other places.

The BJP candidate B. Lokesh campaigned in Devaraj Urs Layout, M.B. Kere and other parts of Davangere South, accompanied by BJP leaders H.S. Nagaraj, and Yashwanth Rao Jadhav, among others.

Horticulture Minister S.A. Ravindranath, along with Chief Whip in Legislative Council A.H. Shivayogiswamy and G.M. Siddeshwar, Davangere MP, campaigned in Davangere North, urging people to support the BJP. At a public meeting, Mr. Ravindranath said the BJP would continue to serve the poor, downtrodden, oppressed and suppressed classes if was voted to power. He said that the BJP had performed well in the last five years and introduced a number of welfare schemes for widows, the elderly and the disabled. The Congress had not introduced even one such scheme, in spite of ruling for over 15 years in the past, he claimed.

Actor Srinagar Kitty participated in a a roadshow in Harapanahalli in support of M.P. Ravindra, Congress candidate and son of the former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash.
