GULBARGA: The Sonda Swarnavalli Mahasamasthana has taken up a project to spread the message and philosophy of Bhagwad Gita among schoolchildren in the State through a campaign.

The 54th chief of the mahasamsthana Gangadarendra Saraswathi told presspersons here on Thursday that a campaign to popularise Bhagwad Gita among children would be launched in Hubli on October 28.

The swamiji said Governor of Karnataka Rameshwar Thakur, Governor of Maharashtra S.M. Krishna, founder of the Arsha Vidya Kendra Dayananda Saraswathi, former Governor Rama Jois, heads of different maths and Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala D. Veerendra Heggade would be participating in the inaugural function to be held at Gokul Garden in Hubli.

He said that in the first phase of the campaign, 12 districts in north Karnataka would be covered during the current academic year. Next year the campaign would be taken up in other districts. The main focus of the campaign would be to conduct intensive coaching classes on Bhagwad Gita for children in the primary and high schools, he added. However, the swamiji clarified that the campaign would be conducted in the schools which agree to hold the classes and to those students who wish to participate. Apart from conducting the 20-day coaching classes in at least 1,000 schools in a district, the swamiji said that the organisers proposed to conduct discourses on Gita in public places and temples.

The translated works of Gita in more than 600 languages would be exhibited during the inauguration.
