The former Minister and president of National Federation of Urban Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies Limited H.K. Patil inaugurated the new premises of the Kallappanna Awade Ichalakaranji Janata Cooperative Bank on Station Road here on Saturday.

Mr. Patil said 40 per cent of the people in the country were not aware of banking services.

Concerted efforts were required to help the members of the unorganised sector, agricultural labourers, farmers and street vendors to get access to banking services.

He said that while there were 88,000 branches of various banks including cooperative and nationalised banks in the country, there were still no branches of banks in 70,000 villages Veteran journalist Patil Puttappa, Pralhad Joshi, MP, the former Ministers A.M. Hindasageri and Prakash Awade, president of Dakshin Bharat Jain Sabha Raosaheb Patil, Mahanthesh Kavatagimath, MLC, Chairman of Hubli Dharwad Urban Development Authority Datta Dorle, former MP Kallappanna Awade, and chairman of the bank Ashokrao Saundattikar were present.
