`Ayurvedic medicines in great demand in the U.S., Germany'
SAGAR (SHIMOGA DISTRICT): Chairman of the Registration Committee of the Council of Indian Medicines in the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Jayaprakashnarayan Bangalore said here on Monday that there was a need to encourage the Indian herbal medicinal system, particularly Ayurveda, to ensure a healthy society.
Replying to felicitations offered to him by the Vipra Employees' Association, Mr. Jayaprakashnarayan said Ayurvedic medicines had the capacity to cure many diseases.
"They in great demand in the U.S. and Germany," he said.
Mr. Jayaprakashnarayan said that herbs found aplenty in Karnataka and Kerala should be made use of in preparing Ayurvedic medicines. He said that attempts were on to retain the patent of turmeric, which had curing properties.
He said there was a lot of demand among foreigners to register the patent for some of the Ayurvedic medicines.
He pointed out that Karnataka had the highest number of Ayurvedic colleges in the country next only to Maharashtra and called for serious efforts to promote the Ayurvedic system of medicine by making full use of the infrastructure.
