Bangalore: A 40-year-old businessman, Ramesh, died on the spot on Marathahalli Main Road after being hit by a vehicle at 3.30 a.m. on Saturday. The police said that Ramesh and his friend Anand were travelling in their car when the vehicle rammed it. Ramesh died on the spot and Anand is in hospital.
Airport Traffic police have registered a case.
In two similar incidents, a four-member gang assaulted and robbed two people of their valuables in Yelahanka and Hebbal police limits on Friday.
In the first incident, the gang offered lift to Dixit, a trainee pilot, while he was waiting for a bus in Jakkur. The gang took him to Bagalur Road and assaulted him and made away with Rs. 600 in cash and an ATM card. Yelahanka police have registered a case.
In the other case, a four-member gang offered lift to Jagadish, a jelly stone vendor, when he was waiting for a bus on Bellary Road. The gang beat him near Bagalur Cross and took away Rs. 9,700 in cash, his watch and a gold chain. Hebbal police have registered a case.
Speaking to The Hindu, Assistant Commissioner of Police (J.C. Nagar Sub Division) Adimani said he suspected the hand of the same gang in the two incidents.
Six huts were gutted in a fire that broke out in Gulbarga Colony on Friday. No causalities were reported in the incident.
Thieves broke into a house in Kalyan Nagar II Stage on Friday and took away gold jewellery worth Rs 3.5 lakh. The theft came to light when P. Vijayan returned home.

Commercial Street police on Thursday arrested Yasir Arafat (21) from Dickenson Road on the charge of vehicle theft.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to his role in the theft of two motorcycle and cars. The police recovered vehicles worth Rs. 3 lakh from the accused. Tilaknagar police arrested Fazil Pasha (25), resident of Bylanarasapura in Nandagudi, on the suspicion of vehicle theft in Jayanagar 9th Block, East End, on April 16.
The police said that the accused was a habitual offender and was recently released on bail.
On interrogation, the accused confessed to crimes in Commercial Street, Kolar, Bethamangala, Kuppam and Hoskote police station limits. The police have recovered six vans and two motorcycles worth Rs. 12 lakh. A search is on for Fazil Pasha’s accomplices Irfan, Jamal and Tarin.

Six persons from the north-east were arrested from a Mysore hotel and taken into police custody on Sunday.
According to sources, four persons claiming to be from Bangalore checked into a hotel at 7.15 a.m. on Saturday. The room was booked in the name of K.H. Ahmed and the address provided was Ashwathnagar, A.C. Post, Doddasandra Main Road, Bangalore.
A joint operation was carried out by a police team comprising two senior officials from the Manipur Police and personnel attached to Mysore City Crime Branch. The hotel staff said a double room was provided for four persons and that none of them came out during their stay.
It was unclear as to how and when two other persons managed to get inside.
