CHIKMAGALUR: The all-India bandh call given by the Sangh Parivar on Thursday evoked a good response in Chikmagalur district. It passed off peacefully barring stray incidents of stone throwing.

All business establishments, including hotels, and educational institutions in Chikmagalur city remained closed. Banks, Central Government undertakings and State government offices did not function. But zilla panchayat and other offices situated on the outskirts functioned as usual. Commuters were stranded at many places as buses and autorickshaws did not ply. Processions were taken out in Balehonnur, Jayapura, Koppa, Sringeri, N.R. Pura and Mudigere. The bandh was partial in Kadur and Tarikere, and in Kudremukh township it was not observed. Miscreants stoned a lorry in Rampura.
