Major accident averted
A major accident was averted, and, perhaps, many lives saved, at Yelahanka here on Sunday after the driver of a bus, whose brakes had failed, rammed a railway gate to stop the vehicle. The bus came to a halt by the railway track.
Around 9 a.m., Manjunath, driver of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus (route 285 M), realised that the brakes of the bus had failed near the Allalsandra railway gate. The bus driver then steered off the road, and into the mud, slowing the vehicle down. The bus collided with a railway gate before coming to a halt by the railway tracks. No one suffered major injuries.
A few minutes later, a passenger train, which was supposed to travel on the tracks, was stopped till the bus was removed from the tracks.
