Bus fares increased by 10 per cent

MANGALORE: With effect from Wednesday, the bus fares of the city, rural as well as long-distance express and ordinary buses have been increased by 10 to 12 per cent.

The private bus owners had sought a hike of 15 per cent, citing rising costs of operation of bus services. The automobile parts and fuel prices had gone up significantly, they had stated in a memorandum submitted recently to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).

Regional Transport Officer and secretary of RTA Afzal Ahmed Khan released the prevailing and revised bus fares to the press. The fares of express and ordinary buses have gone up by Rs. 8.50.
