BELLARY: The district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) on Friday disbursed Rs. 25,000 each to the families of those who died when a multi-storeyed structure under construction collapsed at Gandhi Nagar on January 26. As many as 27 people, of whom 25 were construction workers, died in the incident. Twenty people were rescued.

Disbursing the compensation, party's district unit president N. Suryanarayan Reddy said it was being done as per instructions from the former Prime Minister and party president H.D. Deve Gowda and State unit president H.D. Kumaraswamy. Mr. Reddy branded the State Government as “anti-people” and said that people were put to a lot of hardship because of the erratic power supply, and no effort was being made to improve the situation.
