Illegal portions of nursing hostel being razed
BIDAR: Officials of the Bidar Urban Development Authority (BUDA) on Saturday took up demolition of certain illegal portions of the Prayavi Nursing Hostel here. The process was supervised by BUDA Commissioner S.R. Garwad.
Mr. Garwad told The Hindu that the demolition of the second, third and fourth floors of the building had been taken up in compliance with orders of the High Court Circuit Bench in Gulbarga.
He said the officials had found that one of the hostel’s buildings was not in accordance with the building plan approved by BUDA. The court had directed BUDA to take up demolition of illegal portions of the buildings and to file a compliance report on Monday.
Mr. Garwad said another structure at Aliabad in Bidar city was also demolished. That building had encroached upon government land and a couple of months ago, officials had detected the violation. But its owner had approached the High Court and had obtained a stay order.
Mr. Garwad said that after the stay order was vacated, BUDA demolished the structure.
When asked whether the demolition of the Prayavi Hostel building had anything do with the raid conducted on the same last month, the official said, “We are just following court orders.”
According to official sources, BUDA had served a notice to the owner of Prayavi Nursing Hostel, but the person had approached the court seeking a stay order on any prospective action. But the court, at the beginning itself, declared the case unfit for hearing and directed BUDA to demolition the illegal portions.
The officials said the illegal portions of the building would be completely removed by Sunday and a compliance report submitted to the court thereafter.
