B. Sriramulu, president of the Badavara, Shramikara, Raithara (BSR) Congress, launched the poll campaign on Sunday by blowing the conch at Chellaguriki, a pilgrim centre 25 km from here.

However, the function organised for the launch was without the usual publicity gimmicks and fanfare witnessed during previous elections. Another major factor was the absence of G. Janardhan Reddy, who is in jail on charges of illegal mining, and his elder brother G. Somashekar Reddy, MLA. Mr. Sriramulu, along with J. Shantha, MP; his cousin brother Sanna Phakkirappa, Raichur MP; Mrutyunjaya Jinaga, MLC, and other party leaders, offered worship to the ‘Jeeva Samadhi’ of Chellagurki Yerritata before launching the campaign.
