Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Rakesh Kumar Upadhyay has said that BSNL would shortly be procuring various equipment the procurement of which was held up because of various reasons.

He was speaking at the inauguration the new Vidyanagar telephone exchange and administrative office building in Hubli on Saturday.

He said that BSNL had advanced technology and employees should come out with innovative ideas and schemes for providing better service to customers.

Mr. Upadhyay admitted that there were severe HR (Human Resources) challenges before BSNL and that they were fighting it out. “Everybody wants solutions for the problems and challenges. The talks must go on and then only will we be able to sort out issues”, he said.

Mr. Upadhyay said that despite problems in the last eight months of the financial year, BSNL was able to increase its business in mobile services by Rs. 100 crore, while its main competitors in the mobile services had received a setback in their business during the same period.

Referring to the strengths of BSNL, Mr. Upadhyay said that the landline services and the broadband services were the strengths of the company and in fact in broadband services, BSNL was the most preferred service provider. “We need to capitalise on our strengths”, he added.

Earlier, General Manager of Dharwad Telecom District of BSNL S.S. Sindagi spoke on efforts that went into getting the land for the construction of the new-three storey building to house the new telephone exchange.
