The staff of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) in Gulbarga district went on a day’s strike to protest against what they called “the brutal murder of Sukendra Pal Singh, district secretary of the BSNL Employees’ Union, at Ghaziabad on October 22”. They demanded the arrest of Adesh Kumar Gupta, general manager of BSNL, Ghaziabad, and three others allegedly involved in the incident.

Employees who stayed away from the BSNL offices in the district on Friday staged a demonstration outside the general manager’s office here, demanding stringent action against those responsible for Singh’s death.

Staff affiliated to the United Forum of BSNL Unions, consisting of the BSNL Employees’ Union, Telecom Employees’ Progressive Union, BSNL Mazdoor Sangh, the BSNL Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Employees’ Welfare Association and the National Federation of Telecom Employees, in a note released to the press on Friday, alleged that Singh’s death was a planned murder. They said that Singh was allegedly called to Mr. Gupta’s office and mercilessly beaten up. Although an FIR was filed against Mr. Gupta and three others on charges of murder, the police have not arrested anybody so far. The BSNL management had also not initiated any disciplinary action against Mr. Gupta, they said.

Boycott
