The Bruhat Lok Adalat will be held from August 2 to March 31, 2011, Principal District and Sessions judge Ashok G. Nijagannavar has said.
The Bruhat Lok Adalat would be held in the Madikeri, Somwarpet and Virajpet courts, and later at the Ponnampet court, Mr. Nijagannavar said, according to information received here on Saturday. There were 11,733 cases — 6,949 criminal and 4,784 civil — pending in the district. Cases other than those of a serious nature, such as rape and murder, would be settled at the Bruhat Lok Adalat, as directed by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Mr. Nijagannavar said.
Cases relating to issues such as motor vehicle accidents, cheque bounce and non-payment of bank loans could be tried and settled at the Bruhat Lok Adalat, he said. As many as 502 cases were on the verge of getting settled, Mr. Nijagannavar said. A preliminary meeting held at the court hall on Friday involved officials from the banks and insurance companies. Judges, representatives of insurance companies and banks, and the petitioners, apart from advocates, would be present.
