Car overturns, three killed near Mulbagal

Kolar: Three persons killed on the spot when the car by which they were travelling overturned near Moorandahalli on the outskirts of Mulbagal on Bangalore-Chennai National Highway on Saturday afternoon. It was learnt that the car was proceeding from Bangalore to Tirupati. The names of the dead were given as Basavaraj (40), Gangadhar (42) and Prakash (50). Three persons who suffered serious injuries were admitted to hospital in Bangalore. The Mulbagal police are investigating.

Plea to strengthen Bangalore police

BANGALORE: Chamarajanagar MLA Vatal Nagaraj, former Minister H. N. Nanje Gowda and former MLA Pramila Nesargi have urged the Government to take immediate steps to strengthen the police force to provide foolproof security to vital installations in Bangalore in the light of the increasing population of the city. They told presspersons here on Saturday that the attack on the Indian Institute of Science has exposed lapses in the security. The Government should immediately reinforce the police intelligence wing and provide sophisticated weapons to the police, they said. They urged the Government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the attack. - Staff Reporter

Seek Congress workers' views: Shivakumar

Bangalore: Congress MLA and former Minister D.K. Shivakumar has urged Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh to go by the views of the party workers and leaders at the local level before deciding on tie-ups with other parties in the zilla and taluk panchayats where the Congress has failed to secure a majority. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Shivakumar, who is known for his opposition to the Janata Dal (Secular), has said that the Congress should send observers to districts and taluks to know the mind of party workers. - Special Correspondent
