Nomination papers rejected

MYSORE: The returning officer for the byelection to the Assembly from Chamundeshwari constituency has rejected the nomination papers of "Cyclist" Babu. During the scrutiny of nomination papers on Saturday, returning officer Chikkathammaiah rejected Mr. Babu's papers as he had filed them as a candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). "Though a notice was issued to the applicant to submit the A and B forms of NCP before the closing hours on the last date of filing nominations at 3 p.m. on Friday, he failed to submit them. Hence, his papers were rejected," Mr. Chikkathammaiah said.

Yediyurappa hails Centre's stand

HUBLI: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said on Saturday that the State Government welcomed the stand of the Centre on the border row between the State and Maharashtra. Addressing presspersons here after laying the foundation stone of the mini Vidhana Soudha, he termed the stand a slap in the face to the Maharashtra Government, which he said, was trying to create confusion in the name of language. The Government had been reiterating that the recommendations of the Mahajan Committee were final. He said that he would again appeal to the Centre to accord classical language status to Kannada. TUMKUR: A couple died on the spot when the motorcycle they were riding hit a stationary lorry at Siddharthanagara here on Saturday. The police said Mohamed Khalid (35) of Poor House Colony, and his wife Sayida Begum (28) were returning home after visiting their relative on the outskirts of the city when the accident occurred. `Fulfil demands of high school teachers'

BANGALORE: President of the Karnataka State High School Assistant Masters' Association C. Shankarappa on Friday urged the State Government to fulfil the 18-point charter of demands, including payment of salary to high school teachers on par with their counterparts in Central schools. He told presspersons here that high school teachers had been getting low pay scales since 1976 and the association had submitted a memorandum to the Fifth Pay Commission in this regard. Bangalore: Theory exam for craft course in tailoring to be conducted by the Board of Technical Examination will be held on November 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. The practical examination will be held on November 28. Students can collect admission tickets from the respective institutions or examination centres.
