The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is considering a proposal to collect ‘transport cess' along with property tax. The money collected will be used to maintain roads and create better civic infrastructure.

H. Ravindra, chairperson of the Standing Committee for Major Works, announced this proposal at a public meeting organised by the Wild Forever Foundation and Hasiru Usiru to discuss the widening of Bellary Road (Mekhri Circle to Cauvery Theatre) and Jayamahal Road (Mekhri Circle to Cantonment junction), here on Saturday. “This is still in the proposal stage. We have not fixed any rate. We are yet to discuss the proposal in the BBMP council,” he said.
