In what is believed to be a suicide pact, a young man died while his girlfriend is in hospital after they consumed poison on the Raghunathapura-Devanahalli Main Road in Doddaballapur taluk in Bangalore Rural district on Friday night.
Mohan (22) died in hospital on Saturday morning while Sudha (16) is in a serious condition. The two, neighbours at Thippur village, had been in love for the past two years, much to their parents' displeasure.
“Sudha's parents had been trying to fix her marriage with somebody else for the past few months despite her pleas. Depressed, Mohan and Sudha decided to end their lives,” sources in the Kasaba police station told The Hindu.
Seeing the young lovers collapse on the road after consuming poison, passersby alerted Mohan's brother Govindaraju and shifted the two a hospital, sources added.
