Bangalore: A six-year-old boy was killed when a house collapsed at Shamanna Garden near Bapujinagar early on Saturday.

The police said the boy Abdul Wahid was a first standard student in a government school. His father Abdul Latif, who sustained minor injuries in the incident, has been shifted to hospital.

Wahid and Latif were asleep when the house collapsed around 3.45 a.m., the Byatarayanapura police told The Hindu.

There were 13 persons, including six women, in the house at the time, the police said. The remaining family members had a lucky escape.

The Byatarayanapura police said that Latif dug a deep foundation in an unscientific manner to construct a house on the adjacent land, which is also owned by him, and this resulted in the collapse as the rain had loosened the soil.

The quality of house construction was poor and cracks had appeared on the roof and walls, the police said.
