BANGALORE: Transport Minister R. Ashok on Thursday said student passes would be honoured in Pushpak and Suvarna buses of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) from September 28 onwards.

The decision, taken after considering the plight of students travelling by ordinary buses, is a Vijayadashami offer for them by the Government, he said.

The Minister was inducting two Volvo buses into the fleet of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) here. He said all students, right from primary school to professional colleges, could now travel Pushpak and Suvarna with this decision. The Government, Mr. Ashok said, had been responsive to students’ plight while travelling on ordinary buses, particularly during peak hours and hence the decision.

Senior citizens

The Vijayadashami offer includes extension of senior citizen concession on BMTC’s Vajra (Volvo) services too. The Government intends to enable senior citizens have a comfortable journey and from September 28 onwards, they can travel on the Vajra, except the airport services, on a 25 per cent concession.
