A Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) driver attempted suicide by consuming poison outside the depot manager’s chamber in Shantinagar bus terminus on Wednesday.

Pulled up

Police said Revanna Siddappa, aged around 35, was warned by the depot manager that he would change his route as he was reportedly found to be missing trips. He was absent from work since Saturday.

On Wednesday, he along with his wife came to meet the depot manager. After the meeting, he pulled out a bottle of pesticide and consumed it.

A few staff members immediately overpowered him, snatched the bottle and rushed him to a private hospital.

Out of danger

He is being treated at the hospital and is out of danger, police said.

Based on the complaint by BMTC officials, the Wilson Garden police have registered a case.

BMTC sources said that Revanna Siddappa had joined service in 2003 as driver and had a good track record with no accidents or default in his service records. However, the staff alleged that pressure from seniors was leading to such untoward incidents as the drivers could not manage the shuttle timings owing to traffic.
