Although casualty medical officer in Victoria Hospital Siddeshwar was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police last week for demanding money to issue a wound certificate, the authorities are yet to initiate action against him.

Sources in the hospital told The Hindu he continued to discharge his duties at the hospital. “We saw him working on Wednesday too,” the sources said.

The Hindu had reported last week about the trap. The story highlighted that issuing of wound certificates had become a big racket in government hospitals.

O.S. Siddappa, Dean and Director of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) to which Victoria is attached, said he was yet to get a report from the Lokayukta police.

Report

“As soon as I get the report, I will write to the State Government recommending that the doctor be placed under suspension. We will definitely initiate action against him,” Dr. Siddappa said.
