Party planning to form a team of film actors
It may release first list of candidates in first week of April
BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to rope in “Dreamgirl,” Hemamalini, for campaigning in Karnataka for the Assembly polls.
Sources in the BJP said that the Bollywood actress of the yesteryears, who is also a party MP in the Rajya Sabha, will be requested to camp in the State and to canvass for the party. Former cricketer and the party MP Navjoth Singh Sidhu will also be brought into Karnataka for campaigning, party sources said. Of course, the BJP has decided to present a star-studded poll campaign to woo voters. It is planning to form a team of film actors, who are already in its fold, under the chairmanship of party MLC and Kannada actor Srinath to plan the involvement of actors in the campaign, sources said. The BJP already has several cine personalities such as Shruti, Mahendar, Saikumar, Mukhyamanthri Chandru and others in its fold as party members. In addition to film stars, L. K. Advani, Narendra Modi and Sushma Swaraj will be undertaking campaign in the State.
The BJP is likely to release the first list of candidates for the polls in first week of April. The number of serious ticket aspirants in the party is said to be in the range of eight to 10 per constituency on an average. More freedom would be given to the district units in the selection of candidates, sources said.
About 50 representatives from each of the district would participate in the discussions to be held in Bangalore with the party State leaders. The district units which will attend a consultation on Thursday are Mandya, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Hassan, Kolar, Bellary, Bangalore Rural and Davangere. In the meeting, the views of these district units on the new geographical and socio-cultural status of the constituencies after the delimitation exercise will be elicited.
