It has finalised candidates for the 35 wards of Shimoga City Municipal Council

R.K. Siddaramanna, MLC, and president of the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, said that the party would field its candidates in all the 172 wards for the urban local bodies (ULBs) election in the district.

“The party has announced the list of candidates that it would field for all the 35 wards of Shimoga City Municipal Council (CMC). List of candidates for other ULBs will be announced shortly,” he told presspersons here on Thursday. He ruled of the possibility of any electoral understanding with other political parties in the district. The upgrading of infrastructure and civic amenities initiated in urban areas of the district by the BJP government would help the party in the ULB elections, he said.

He said there would be a direct fight between the BJP and the Congress in the ULB elections in the district.

In Shikaripur Town Municipal Council there will be a triangular fight between the Congress, the BJP and the Karnataka Janata Paksha. The BJP would retain power in Shimoga and in Sagar CMCs. The party would also come to power in Bhadravathi CMC and in Tirthahalli, Sorab, Hosanagar, and Shiralakoppa Town Panchayats, he said. Replying to a query on the alleged discontent among BJP workers on fielding K.H. Mahesh, a relative of Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, to contest from ward number 21 of Shimoga CMC, he said: “Mr. Mahesh is a committed worker of the party. Recognising his organising skills, the party has decided to field him,” he said.

On the announcement made by Sagar MLA Belur Gopalakrishna on quitting the BJP, he said that Mr. Gopalakrishna had embarrassed the party in the past also.
