Writer K. Marulasiddappa has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party Government in Karnataka was utilising the democratic set-up to promote fascist ideology, which is inhuman to the core. Bhagavad Gita Abhiyan in schools is part of this agenda, he added.
Mr. Marulasiddappa was speaking at a seminar on “Whether Bhagavad Gita Abhiyan in schools is relevant” organised by the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti here on Saturday.
The writer explained that Bhagavad Gita preaches acceptance of everything in life without questioning, which is against the ideal of scientific reasoning, one of the Constitutional tenets. Mr. Marulasiddappa argued that Bhagavad Gita is a scripture that preaches caste system and strengthens feudal system, and that its compulsory recital in schools violates secularism.
Nagaragere Ramesh argued that Bhagavad Gita was written to counter several ideologies such as Charvaka, Buddhism which preached humanism and scientific thinking.
