Members of Parliament belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party from the State have decided to seek an appointment with President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek a change of Governor in the State.
D.B. Chandre Gowda, speaking on behalf of the party MPs, told presspersons here on Thursday that a change of Governor was an immediate requirement given the role played by H.R. Bhardwaj, who he charged with “meddling in the State's politics”. “The BJP has all along been reluctant to petition the President for a change of Governor with the belief that the latter will change,” he said.
The others present at the press conference included Minister for Water Resources, Basavaraj Bommai, Minister for Minor Irrigation and Textiles Govind Karjol, Minister for Labour B.N. Bache Gowda and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister B.J. Puttaswamy. They too underlined the need for a change of Governor in the State.
Mr. Gowda, who had earlier served as Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly apart from serving as Leader of the Opposition in both the Houses of the State legislature, said it was unfortunate that the Governor, after placing his address to a joint session of the State legislature, has continued to indulge in politics. “Even more unfortunate is the frequent visits of the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda to the Raj Bhavan. The corridors of the Raj Bhavan are frequented by the leaders of the Opposition parties,” he said.
Asked whether the Chief Minister and other Ministers would accompany them for the meeting with the President and Prime Minister, he said: “It is only a representation being made by the MPs. It is our duty to bring the matter to the notice of the President and the Prime Minister”.
