He wonders why the party is showing interest in them now

The Bharatiya Janata Party is very keen to mend fences with the Reddy brothers of Bellary, G. Somashekar Reddy, MLA, has claimed.

In an informal chat with presspersons after launching the Pulse Polio programme here on Sunday, he said that national leaders of the BJP were seriously trying to rope in the Reddy brothers in a bid to strengthen it, which had been weakened after the split, and they had sent words to this effect through S.K. Bellubbi, Minister for Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee.

“After the State-level convention of minorities at Davanagere recently, the BJP had realised that the BSR Congress, founded recently by B. Sriramulu, independent MLA, is gaining a lot of support and emerging into a force to reckon with. Therefore, the BJP leaders at the national level are trying to get our support to strengthen it. Mr. Bellubbi called me over phone and said that he had been directed by senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh to request me to arrange a meeting with G. Janardhan Reddy at the Chanchalaguda jail. Mr. Singh had a round of discussion with me in this regard,” he claimed woo

Mr. Reddy said that Mr. Bellubbi met Mr. Janardhan Reddy in the jail in Hyderabad on Saturday and claimed that he was unaware of what transpired between the two.

Mr. Reddy said that he sought to know why the BJP was evincing interest in the Reddy brothers now, after keeping the latter at bay when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Mr. Janardhan Reddy on September 5, 2011.

‘No question’

Mr. Reddy said that it had been made clear to Mr. Bellubbi that there was no question of the Reddy brothers supporting the BJP, as it had been decided by Mr. Janardhan Reddy, Mr. Sriramulu and himself.

Referring to the charges of irregularities in the Karnataka Milk Federation of which he is the chairman, Mr. Reddy said that he was in no way involved in those issues as all purchases were being made through a committee. Stating that he was ready to face any probe, he said that so far, he had not received any notice from the Lokayukta police.
