State president of the Scheduled Tribe Cell of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee T. Eshwar has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party government has neglected the Scheduled Tribes by denying them facilities that are due to them.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Eshwar said the ST community was disappointed with the government because of its “apathetic” attitude towards them.

He said that to attract STs to it, the Congress was conducting divisional-level conventions in Belgaum, Bangalore, Mysore and Davangere. The Belgaum divisional-level convention would be held during the second week of February, he said.

Mr. Eshwar said the party was revamping ST cells in the districts. To facilitate it, district cells had been dissolved with immediate effect and new ones would be formed in a week, he said. He clarified that the revamping was being done to accommodate youngsters and give them more responsibilities.

Mr. Eshwar said the State government had failed to maintain confidentiality of the Sadashiva Commission report and hence the recommendations of the commission were leaked even before it was submitted to the government. He condemned the statement of Minister for Municipal Administration Balachandra Jarkiholi who had reportedly said that the bureaucracy was not cooperating in getting the SC/STs their due rights.

He asked Mr. Jarkiholi should resign owning moral responsibility.
