‘Promises made in its poll manifesto have not been fulfilled’

T. Eshwar, State president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Scheduled Tribes cell, has alleged that the BJP government has neglected the Scheduled Tribes and has failed to fulfil the promises made in the previous poll manifesto.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Eshwar said that the only favour the BJP government had shown to the Scheduled Tribes during the last four and a half years was the declaration of a holiday for Valmiki Jayanti.

He alleged that the BJP government was trying to divide society, which was evident from the leak of the report of the A.J. Sadashiva Commission on special quota in reservation before its submission. “The report leaked because of interference by leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, who wanted to know the contents of the report. The government also made certain changes in the report at the last minute,” he alleged.

Instead of focussing on the overall development of the State, the BJP leaders were claiming credit for funds released by the Union government under various schemes. “The BJP government should declare all the development projects launched by it during the last four and a half years,” he said.

The Congress had decided to launch a campaign from February 19 in all districts to make the Scheduled Tribe communities unite. The campaign would conclude with a convention in Davangere in the last week of March, he said.
