Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu said on Sunday that the party was not against economic reforms but foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail trade as it paralysed retail operations across the country.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said the BJP supported FDI in media.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took the decision on allowing 51 per cent FDI in retail sector out of frustration over his failures and not with conviction.

It was a unilateral decision of the government without consulting Parliament and Chief Ministers though then Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee assured the Lok Sabha last year that the consultations would be a pre-condition to the introduction of the step.
