The Karnataka government on Saturday appointed G. Bhavani Singh (59) as the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha and other accused.

Mr. Singh replaces B.V. Acharya, who put in his papers in August 2012 stating that he had suffered at the hands of “interested parties” who wanted him to quit. However, his resignation was accepted only on January 17, 2013.

Mr. Bhavani Singh has 38 years of experience as an advocate practicing on criminal side. He was an Additional Government Pleader (Criminal cases) and Additional State Public Prosecutor from 1999 to 2004.

Chouta to continue

Meanwhile, advocate Sandesh J. Chouta, who was the assistant to the former SPP Mr. Acharya in the case since 2004, will continue in the same post to assist Mr. Singh.
