With V. Manjunath Bhandary, Congress candidate from the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency, submitting the ‘B’ form to the returning officer on Friday, the confusion regarding his candidature has ended.

Followers of the former Minister Kumar Bangarappa had staged protests against the denial of ticket to their leader to contest the election. A delegation of Congress leaders from the district met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee G. Parameshwara, and the former Union Minister for External Affairs S.M. Krishna recently to convey their displeasure.

It is said that though the party had declared the candidature of Mr. Bhandary, there was a delay in issuing the ‘B’ form. Mr. Bhandary filed nomination papers on Wednesday, but did not furnish the ‘B’ form.

Mr. Bhandary told presspersons that Mr. Bangarappa would campaign for him.

“Mr. Bangarappa has made it clear that he will not quit the Congress at any cost. He is a good friend of mine and I am sure that he will seek votes in my favour,” he added.

President of Shimoga district Congress committee, R. Prasanna Kumar, party functionaries Balkish Banu, and N. Ramesh were present.
