After parks, hospitals and schools, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike ventured into a new area of “public service” by opening a yoga centre at Rajajinagar here on Wednesday.

According to Rajajinagar ward councillor H.R. Krishnappa, it will cater to the increasing popularity and demand for yoga centres among the general public.

Inaugurating the centre, Law Minister S. Suresh Kumar said there will be free yoga classes till November 14 at the centre after which classes will be held in the morning and evening every day. There will be special sessions for women. The fee for all the classes is Rs. 150 a month, said yoga instructor Vishwabandhu Nagesh.

Mr. Kumar distributed cheques to four people belonging to the SC/ST category for new houses under the palike's 22.7 scheme.
