M.P.Ravindra, who was recently appointed the president of the District Congress Committee, said on Wednesday that working as a team would enable the party to regain its hold on the district.

“I believe in doing work instead of issuing press statements. I will discharge my duties sincerely and strive hard to ensure that the hopes reposed on me by the party are not belied. To start with, I will seek the cooperation and support of all the party leaders in the district, strive hard to carry them along, continue the struggle to solve people's problems, especially farmers,” he told The Hindu. Mr. Ravindra said the party's base was intact in the district as was seen in the recent elections .

He said the Congress would raise its voice against maladministration, irregularities, and extend its full support to party workers to overcome the threats and pressures from vested interests, who use money and muscle power, especially in Bellary, Sirguppa and Hospet taluks.

“The party had proved its strength in the western taluks during the recently concluded elections to the panchayats and we will concentrate more in the other taluks to lead the party towards victory,” he said.
