Belgaum students shine in skating competition

Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 in the city bagged one gold and four silver medals at the National-level KV Skating Competition held in Pune from October 16 to 29.

A press release issued here on Saturday stated in the under 11 boys’ inline category, Tushar Prabhu clinched the gold medal in the 1000-metre road race.

He also won one silver medal each in the 300-metre and 1000-metre rink races, the release said.

In the under 14 boys’ category, Pratik Methi won a silver medal in the 500-metre rink race II.

In the under 11girls’ category, Vaishnavi Mandlik won a silver medal in the 500-metre rink race II, the release said.

Trained at Belgaum Roller Skating Academy, Tushar, Pratik and Vaishnavi had been selected for the School Games Federation of India’s Roller Skating Championship to be held in New Delhi next month.

The medal winners attributed their achievement to the blessings of their parents and the guidance of their trainers Suryakant Hindlagekar, Vishal Vesane, Shashidhar Pol and Kiran Ingawal, and encouragement by school principal K.S. Muralikrushnan and physical instructor G.L. Indi.

The press release said that skaters of the academy Akshata Sawant, Prerana Bhat and Anushka Shankargouda participated at CBSE South Zone Roller Skating Championships and got selected for the nationals to be held in Amritsar from November 19 to 24.
