Taking note of the violations of rules by various telecom companies, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to clip their wings.
With reference to optical fibre cables (OFCs) being thrown over trees like cable wires, at a review meeting of the BBMP held here on Monday, it was decided that the companies would be fined under the Karnataka Defacement of Public Places (Prevention) Act, 1981 for defacing public property and hurting the trees.
Earlier, the civic body had fined several telecom companies for unauthorised digging of roads at night.
Also, the BBMP has noted instances of companies using sanitation pipes to pass the OFCs, resulting in clogging of the pipes.
In the meeting, it was decided to carry out a drive to remove the OFCs and fine the violators.
Further, the civic body will make history by filling potholes on main roads across the city.
