“The BBMP is now in safe hands.” This was Siddaiah speaking after handing over charge to M.K. Shankarlinge Gowda, who assumed charge as Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner here on Monday.
Mr. Shankarlinge Gowda told presspersons that his priority would be providing quality service to citizens.
“There are solutions [to problems] and the challenge is to find a favourable one that does not tarnish the image of the civic authority,” he said.
He also that said there will be controversies and conflicts of interest but he would work towards raising resources. “The means are limited. We need the cooperation of the elected representatives,” he said.
He was non-committal about the scam, choosing to say: “I cannot weave a magic wand and remove corruption. Transparency is the key and for that, we will have to bring in systemic improvements.”
Later, Mr. Siddaiah said that he had immense satisfaction about his eventful tenure in the BBMP. “I am fortunate I got to serve my city,” he said.
