For the first time in the country, an all-India kabaddi tournament is being organised by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) from April 6 to 10 here at the Sri Durga Parameshwari playground at J.P. Nagar second stage.

Thirty-two teams from across the country will be participating, including ONGC, Bharat Petroleum, South Central Railways, All India Radio and Uttar Pradesh police.

Home and Transport Minister R. Ashok will inaugurate the tournament while Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will distribute prizes to the winners on April 10. The prize money for the winner is Rs. 2 lakh, while the runner-up will get Rs. 1 lakh. A sum of Rs. 50,000 will be given to the other two semi-finalists.

The BBMP is bearing all the costs of the event, which may come up to approximately Rs. 1 crore. Arrangements for transport, medical aid and stay for the players have already begun.
