On a day which saw controversial developments at the BBMP, engineers of the civic agency added to the heat by striking work and staging a protest outside the head office here on Monday.
They were agitating against the recent arrest of Executive Engineer I. Vendon by the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) investigating the multi-crore scam in three divisions. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
On November 25, the engineers had threatened to strike if their colleague was not released from jail and had submitted a memorandum to Deputy Mayor S. Harish.
Led by Engineer-in-Chief B.T. Ramesh, the protestors raised slogans against the BMTF and alleged that the arrest and the charges were tailored to suit a political agenda.
They claimed that the dossier compiled by the BMTF was, in fact, based on the report submitted by the Technical Vigilance Committee under Commissioner on the scam. The engineers have set a deadline of seven days for a favourable resolution to the issue.
