The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to scrap contracts which were handed over to private companies for development and maintenance of greenery on roads in the city.

The decision was approved by the Taxation and Finances Standing Committee of the BBMP after it found that it offered no economic benefits to the palike, said a release.

The contract was given to nine companies for the development of roads coming under the East Division of the Horticulture Department. A fresh tender will be announced, said a release.

With a large number of BBMP officials and workers in the Lokayukta net, the BBMP had recently issued a circular asking the Joint Commissioner to oversee meetings with subordinates in the sub-division. These meeting would adhere to the directions given by the Additional Director-General of Police Lokayukta, wherein officials were asked to expedite the work allotted without accepting a bribe.

BBMP announced that it would, on Friday, undertake ancleaning of Nagawara (Ward 23).
