Naganagowda Kandakur nominated chairman of HKDB

GULBARGA: Two old-timers in the Janata Dal (Secular) who remained loyal to the party and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda were rewarded with top posts in the Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board (HKDB) and the Gulbarga Development Authority (GDA).

District Janata Dal (S) president Basavaraj Tadkal, one of the senior most party leaders in the district, has been nominated chairman of the GDA and former zilla panchayat member and president of Yadgir Taluk Panchayat Naganagowda Kandakur has been nominated chairman of the Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board with immediate effect.

The relationship between Mr. Deve Gowda and Kandakur family dates back to several decades.

Mr. Kandakur, considered to be a strongman in Yadgir and Gurmitkal Assembly constituencies, belongs to the Lingayat Reddy community. Mr. Kandakur played an important role in the election of Veerabasantreddy Mudnal from Yadgir Assembly Constituency.

Mr. Mudnal, who was denied the Janata Dal (S) ticket, contested the election as a rebel and romped home.

Mr. Tadkal, a former corporator in Gulbarga City Municipal Corporation, had held several positions in the party before being appointed as president of the district unit seven years ago. Mr. Tadkal, who was a one time close associate of former Minister S.K. Kanta, has now distanced himself from him and is considered to be a close supporter of Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Dharshanapur.

Party sources said that Mr. Dharshanapur played a key role in the nomination of Mr. Tadkal as GDA chairman and Mr. Kandakur as chairman of the HKDB.

Mr. Tadkal took charge on Wednesday and Mr. Kandakur is expected to take charge on Thursday.

Mr. Tadkal told presspersons that his first task was to convert Gulbarga city into a model township with all facilities.
