BANGALORE: Basanthkumar Patil, film producer, actor and distributor, was elected president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) here on Saturday.

There were over 100 candidates for the 52-member executive committee of the KFCC comprising president, treasurer and three vice-presidents and three general secretaries representing production, distribution and exhibition fields. While B.N. Gangadhar, K. Manju and V. Hanumantharaya were elected vice-presidents, A. Ganesh, M. Narasimhalu and N. K. Venkateshamurthy were elected general secretaries. Producer and distributor S.A. Chinne Gowda was elected treasurer unanimously.

Souvenir

The outgoing executive committee of the KFCC headed by actor Jaimala released a 600-page souvenir, “Amruta Chitra”, on the activities of Kannada cinema during its platinum jubilee year at the concluding session of the general body meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, writer Baragur Ramachandrappa, editor of the souvenir, said that the souvenir comprised important reports, programmes, pictures and a chronology of films from 1934 to December 2009. Releasing the souvenir, B.R. Jayaramaraje Urs, Secretary, Information and Kannada and Culture, said that the Government would lay the foundation stone for the Rs. 10-crore “Amruta Bhavana” of Kannada cinema shortly. The Government would soon announce a comprehensive Kannada cinema policy.

Ms. Jaimala spoke about the achievements and programmes on the anvil of the trade body during her tenure.
